Bearna in the local Gaeltacht language, or Barna in English, is a charming village west of Galway city in County Galway. Officially the village is regarded as Irish or Gaeltacht speaking, so you may have the pleasure of overhearing some of this wonderful language, although due to the villages proximity to Galway, English is rapidly becoming the dominantly spoken language.

By car
From Dublin City:
From the city, drive to the quays and continue to Heuston Station which will be on your right. Take the N4 and continue following signs for the The West. Continue to Clonard where you will see signposts for the N6 and Galway. Continue along the N6 passing through Milltownpass, Tyrellspass and Moate, and later through Ballinasloe, Loughrea and Craughwell. Approaching Galway, follow signs for Galway City and then for Clifden and Oughterard. At the junction with Headford Road take the third exit. This will take you over the Quincentenial Bridge and the River Corrib. At this point, take the N6 and follow the signs for Spiddal/Coast road or Salthill. Continue on the signposted road to Spiddal. On entering Bearna Village you will see the hotel on the right hand side of the crossroads. It should take between 3 to 3.5 hours to arrive from Dublin.

By airplane
Driving Directions from Shannon Airport:
Drive north from Shannon airport on the N18 passing through Ennis and on to Galway. At the Oranmore roundabout follow the N59 out towards Clifden. This will take you over the Quincentenial Bridge and the River Corrib. At this point, take the N6 and follow the signs for Spiddal or Salthill. Continue on the signposted road to Spiddal. On entering Bearna village you will see the hotel on the right hand side. It should take about 70 minutes to arrive from the airport.
